Has anyone had “dialation” surgery for hemorrhoids, serious answers please?
thank you for your replies, i live in the uk where anal dilation is a procedure whereby the surgeon inserts his or her fingers into the anal canal and gently stretches the sphincter muscles. I have heard negative reports about this procedure not least that the US refuses to use it becuase of the risk of fecal incontinence afterwards. I was hoping for a reply from someone in the Uk who has had this kind of operation and how they fared afterwards.

i had a chuckle.. laparoscopic surgery is not done by lasers.
i’m a surgical intern. yes we do dialation for hemorrihoids though this is not exactly what it is called.
what occurs in the procedure is the hemorrhoid is cut open and the blood clots are removed. i have to admit, when i perform these, i cringe.. even though we use local anesthetics, there is still a lot of pain, the patients are literally screaming.
don’t consider a procedure as a serious option until it become absolutely unbearable. in the mean time, stop straining.
best of luck~
I work for a General Surgery department in a hospital.. our surgeons do hemorrhoid surgeries. I’ve never heard of a dilation being done for hemorrhoids. They usually do an anal dilation if a patient has "colonic inertia" or narrowing of the colon, and various other diseases. I’m pretty sure the most common and effective surgery would be a laprascopic hemorrhoidectomy. (where they use lasers to excise the veins).
I included a link on WebMD that tells you what each method involves.
